Alastair Briggs is a professional bagpiper for hire for all special occasions in Edmonton and throughout the province of Alberta. 

Having a bagpiper perform for any occasion definitely adds some nostalgia to your event. The sound of the pipes resonate with melodious tones as well as ominous and haunting sounds surely to enhance any occasion. I began my bagpiping odyssey as a child back in 1986 as a very young member of the Edmonton Boys Pipe Band, now known as the Edmonton Youth Pipe Band which is the oldest organization of its kind in Alberta. This is where I learnt the fundamentals and the art of the Great Highland Bagpipe. Being taught by some fantastic instructors helped me to become an important member of a lot of other organizations such as The National Army Cadet Pipes and Drums, Edmonton Caledonia Pipe Band, Alberta Caledonia Pipe Band, St. Thomas Alumni Pipe Band, Wajjo African Drummers and have performed with Sweet Vintage Rides as well.  

Some of my most memorable performances over the years have been for the late Queen Mother, Queen Elizabeth 2nd, late Governor General Lois Hole, Edmonton Oilers Legends Live and the opening ceremonies of the Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium. 

Throughout my bagpiping journey, I have had the honour of performing at numerous different events including:

WEDDINGS

Hiring a bagpiper for your wedding that is dressed in full uniform and playing a finely tuned instrument sets the tone for a memorable occasion that you, your family and guests won't soon forget. 

Here are some examples of how to utilize me at your wedding:

CEREMONY

  • Play as guests arrive at your chosen venue.
  • Pipe in the groom and his groomsmen to their positions.
  • Pipe in the bridal party and the bride down the aisle.
  • Play during the signing of the registries.
  • Play the newlyweds out of the venue to the receiving line destination or the destination of your choice.

RECEPTION

  • Perform as guests arrive at the designated reception venue.
  • Pipe in the wedding party to the head table.

funerals 

Having a lone piper play at a funeral is an emotional sendoff for any loved one. The stirring melodies and haunting sounds create a sense of peace whether played at the funeral home or the graveside. Timing is extremely important when booking a musician for a funeral so please contact me at your earliest convenience to make arrangements. Every service is different and unique so if you have any questions or special requests, feel free to ask as I am here to help you design a beautiful ceremony to remember. 

Here are some examples of how to utilize my expertise at a service:

CEREMONY

  • Play as hearse arrives at funeral home.
  • Pipe casket or urn into the auditorium.
  • Play at any time during the service. 
  • Perform during slide show if no other music has been preselected.
  • Pipe casket, urn and immediate family out of the auditorium.

GRAVESIDE

  • Pipe as family and friends gather at the site.
  • Pipe during a selected time within the graveside service.
  • Perform as family, friends and guests leave gravesite.
